Commercial Club

As the team leader for Design House, Lo was tasked to create clubs that involved transferrable 21st Century skills that students would enjoy during out of school time programming. With Design House focusing on reaching students where they are and ensuring they have appropriate tools in technology, the Commercial Club was formed. Lo's understanding of the evolving world of marketing and advertising was instrumental in shaping this club's curriculum. Under Lo's guidance, students embarked on a creative journey to learn how to craft captivating commercials. The process was comprehensive, involving the development of a story spine through iterative processes, storyboarding, scriptwriting, camera shot composition, and the intricate art of editing, both audio and video, using software like iMovie. Under Lo's guidance, students transformed their ideas into visually stunning and emotionally compelling advertisements. MYDC was able to utilize this commercial when applying for operational funds. ‍

Podcasting Club

Recognizing the potential of podcasts as a platform for storytelling and self-expression, Lo leveraged the expertise of journalists and podcasters to craft a program that enabled students to learn how to craft a podcast from start to finish. They delved into the world of black podcasters who were leading in the industry, gaining valuable insights into the medium. Under Lo's mentorship, students honed their interviewing skills, learned the intricacies of recording and audio editing, and even learned the art of branding their podcast. This innovative program not only enriched the students' technical skills but also gave them a voice to share their stories, opinions, and aspirations with the world.

Lo Yvette's Impact

Lo, a dedicated consultant working closely with the Manchester Youth Development Center (MYDC), played a pivotal role in advancing the organization's mission to empower children and families in the Northside communities of Pittsburgh. As an organization deeply committed to fostering positive cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development in youth, MYDC sought to expand its offerings and make a lasting impact on the lives of the children it served.

In pursuit of this goal, MYDC secured a grant to implement a groundbreaking initiative known as Design House. This project aimed to create project-based learning activities that harnessed the power of technology while nurturing essential 21st-century workforce skills in both students and adults. Lo, serving as a seasoned consultant, brought valuable expertise and innovative thinking to the table, leaving an indelible mark on MYDC and the young people it sought to empower.

Under Lo's expert guidance, Design House embarked on the journey of creating and implementing a dynamic media program. This program consisted of two distinctive components, each designed to engage and inspire the students of MYDC.

The first of these programs was the Podcasting Club. Recognizing the immense potential of podcasts as a platform for storytelling and self-expression, Lo leveraged their expertise to craft a program that enabled students to learn the art of crafting a podcast from inception to completion. They delved into the world of black podcasters who were leading in the industry, gaining valuable insights into the medium. Under Lo's mentorship, students honed their interviewing skills, mastered the intricacies of recording and audio editing, and even learned the art of branding their podcasts. This innovative program not only enriched the students' technical skills but also gave them a voice to share their stories, opinions, and aspirations with the world.

The second program offered by Design House was the Commercial Club. Thanks to Lo's expertise, students transformed their ideas into visually stunning and emotionally compelling advertisements.

One of the standout achievements of the Commercial Club was the creation of a commercial that played a pivotal role in securing additional operational funds for MYDC. Lo's contributions not only demonstrated the tangible impact of their consultancy but also underscored the practicality and relevance of the skills that students were acquiring through these programs.

Lo's unwavering dedication as a consultant to MYDC and the Design House project showcased the transformative power of education, technology, and mentorship. Through their vision and leadership, Lo empowered the youth of Northside communities with valuable skills and gave them the confidence to dream big and reach for the stars. In the heart of Pittsburgh's Northside, Lo's consultancy became a symbol of hope, a testament to the potential that lies within every young person, and a reminder of the boundless possibilities that education and creative exploration can unlock.
